CUSTOMER REPORT – BERRY PLASTICS

When talking with the management of the Berry Plastics’ Goshen Indiana plant, the phrase “stick with what works” comes to mind.

The Goshen plant is very focused on its production of industrial trash liners and has streamlined and optimized this process over its 30+ years in business.

Integral to this focus and ultimate success is a wide array of in-line bag machines and coreless winders from FAS Converting / PECO. This plant standardized on the format, converting in-line with its blown film extrusion process since its opening in 1983.

The Goshen facility was originally opened as a satellite plant by Rullpak AB in Sweden and called Rollpak. The plant was expanded numerous times, most recently in the late 90’s to its present size. Berry Plastics acquired the plant in 2007. The brand name Rollpak Liners is still a very popular seller among Berry Plastics’ customers.

Plant maintenance manager Rod Geiser says “I’ve been here since the building went up and we have been very successful with our FAS PECO bag machines and winders”
Indeed, on a recent visit, bright yellow was the theme when looking around the plant (FAS Converting / PECO machines have always been proudly painted the yellow of the Swedish flag).

Plant manager Cory Keich stated “The spare parts and service support we receive through PECO in the USA is very good and is a key factor in keeping our equipment running 24/7. This plant has developed a production model that has been refined and is very successful. Like everyone else in this business we are always looking to improve, and raise outputs, and we can do that by working with our suppliers and employees.”

FAS Converting Sales Director Peter Håkansson says;, “We have enjoyed a long relationship with the folks in Goshen since its opening and we look forward to working with Rod and Cory and Berry Plastics. It is gratifying to see such a large installation of our equipment running so successfully for so long here in North America. We have over 700 machines in this particular market and this is one of our largest installations.”
Tom Helming, FAS’ PECO Inc. Division’s Sales Manager for North America said;, “There is a long standing track record of successful collaboration here in Goshen. We hope to be able to continue to work with Cory and Rod for continued success in Goshen.”
